A young boy was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Highway 180 Saturday afternoon, about three miles north of Flagstaff and a mile east of Arizona Snowbowl. DPS says the accident happened at around 1:27 p.m. when a Jeep driven by a 20-year-old California woman, driving eastbound on 180, hit the 11-year-old boy, who was from Sinaloa, Mexico. DPS says the child was with his family as they attempted to run across the highway. The family stopped for an approaching vehicle, however the child kept running and was hit. DPS State Troopers, Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies and crews from the Flagstaff Fire Department arrived on the scene and closed the highway for a short time. Witnesses tell KAFF News first responders performed life saving measures on the boy, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, however authorities have not ruled out impairment in the case. The case has been turned over to the Coconino County Attorney’s office.
