A Mingus Union High School student was injured after he was hit by a vehicle after getting off the school bus Thursday afternoon in Cottonwood. Police say the accident happened at around 3 p.m. in the T intersection of South 6th Street at Aspen Street. The driver of the school bus activated the busses stop sign and allowed the kids to get off. The driver parked so that his bus partially blocks the intersection to prevent people from turning off Aspen Street in front of the bus. About a half-dozen kids made it to the sidewalk. The male student was crossing the crosswalk in front of the bus when the bus driver saw a white car traveling toward the kids. The bus driver honked his horn to get the attention of the driver of the car, but it hit the boy. The student suffered a broken leg as a result. The accident is under investigation, but the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office will review the case for possible felony charges.
