A Counselor At The Camp Verde Detention Center Dies For COVID-19

A part-time employee and counselor at the Camp Verde Detention Center passed away this week after getting sick with symptoms of COVID-19. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say the person worked for Wexford Health Sources at the center. After several days in the hospital for various medical concerns, the counselor passed away Monday. During his hospital stay, he was tested for COVID-19 in part due to his age. The day following the person’s death, test results came back positive. Sheriff Mascher immediately directed staff to set up testing for those who came in contact with the employee. Since testing began, one additional member of the jail support staff, tested positive Thursday and is currently quarantined. As of Friday, there are no other confirmed cases of COVID-19 involving staff or inmates at the center.
