A Chino Valley man was arrested Sunday following a standoff with Yavapai County Sheriff’s SWAT members. Authorities say they received a call at around 2:30 p.m. concerning the well-being and mental health of a 57-year-old man. They responded to a home in the 25-hundred block of West Sundial Road. Investigators discovered Emery Dodd told a family member he wanted to kill himself, or have law enforcement come and do “suicide by cop.” Just before leaving the home and calling 911, the family member heard Dodd fire a gunshot toward the ceiling from downstairs. Deputies convinced Dodd to come outside. Dodd was carrying an AR-15 type rifle and wearing body armor. After two hours of negotiations with SWAT and members of the Spectrum Crisis Team, as well as the evacuation of the area, Dodd was convinced to put the gun down and take off the armor. He was taken into custody without further incident. Several firearms were found inside the home, with ammunition. Dodd was booked on weapons charges as well as endangerment, assault and disorderly conduct.
