A Bill Is Making Its Way Through The State Legislature That Would Raise The Gas Tax For Roads

A Prescott representative wants more money to fix our roads, but it means paying more at the pump. Noel Campbell’s bill would gradually raise the gas tax from 18-cents to 36-cents by 2023. Campbell says he would rather not call this a tax, but he says our safety is worth more than the necessary spending to maintain our roads. Even if Campbell’s bill makes it through the House and Senate, it could hit a brick wall with Governor Ducey, who is not fond of new taxes. The bill has already cleared the House Transportation Committee, which Campbell chairs. The bill now heads to the House Rules Committee.
