A murder case that was highlighted on a national television show has ended in a hung jury. A jury deliberated the murder case of Cecilio Cruz, who is accused of murdering Marisol Gonzalez, and her unborn son, in Cottonwood in 1997 when the two were both 17-years-old. The jury met for ten hours Friday and were deadlocked. The case appeared on the show “Cold Justice.” Cruz was arrested in Tucson in 2014 and charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter. The defense said during the trial that there are no eyewitnesses to the shooting, Cruz didn’t confess, the weapon never was found, and no DNA or physical evidence ties Cruz to the crime. Prosecutors have 60 days to retry the case.
