Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes pleaded guilty Thursday to driving a friend’s boat, and hitting two others while trying to dock it, while drunk at Lake Powell back in August. Rhodes reportedly tried to help a friend park a boat at Wahweap Marina when the accident took place. The sheriff was cited by the National Park Service for OUI, or boating under the influence, which is a Class B misdemeanor. Rhodes had a blood alcohol limit was .119 and .113, which is well above the state’s legal limit of .08. The sheriff said in a statement back in August that “I deeply regret my actions and have learned from this mistake.” He adds, “I am sure you are disappointed and that’s fair, however I am more disappointed in myself.” He was sentenced to one year probation, two days of home confinement and was fined $500, as well as banned for life from the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Rhodes is in his first term as Yavapai County Sheriff.
