Fire crews continue to burn fuels on the Newman Fire burning south of Flagstaff. The fire has burned nearly five-thousand acres about three miles south of Upper Lake Mary. Crews were able to burn a lot of area yesterday and plans are to keep a watch over the fire today. Fire managers have temporarily closed some areas of the fire zone to the public. The Narrows day use area and the Lakeview Campground have been reopened. Officials say allowing the fire to burn within the area, will create buffers that could help protect homes and vital infrastructure from possible future severe wildfires.
