Summit Fire and Medical crews were called to eastbound Interstate-40 at Buffalo Range Road early Wednesday morning for an accident involving a semi-truck. Crews arrived on scene to find the truck had left the road and crashed into a median and then into an embankment at the underpass. The crash trapped two people inside the cab of the truck, which required an extensive extrication effort that took an hour to complete. Both patients were taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The accident sent the contents of the trailer across I-40. Witnesses tell KAFF News the driver fell asleep behind the wheel of the truck prior to the accident. The truck was hauling packages for UPS.
