The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 40 last week, which resulted in a large seizure of Methamphetamine. On Thursday at around 3:26 p.m. a K9 Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 at milepost 199, near the I-17/I-40 transition, after observing a traffic violation. During the stop the deputy became suspicious due to inconsistent statements made by the three occupants of the vehicle. The driver gave consent to a search of the vehicle and the Deputy’s K9 was deployed to the exterior of the vehicle. The K9 alerted to the presence of illegal drugs. The subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 90 pounds of Methamphetamine. The three people inside the vehicle were two adult males and one male juvenile. The two adults were booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility and the juvenile male was booked into the Coconino County Juvenile Detention Facility for felony transportation of dangerous drugs for sale. The incident remains under investigation.
