Tornado Spotted In Doney Park, And A Large Dust Storm In Winslow Caps A Wild Weather Tuesday

The 2021 Monsoon season is off to an interesting start. Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service says a weak “landspout tornado” spun up ahead of the strong gust front that moved through the Doney Park area at around 4 p.m. NOAA describes a landspout tornado as a “tornado with a narrow, rope-like condensation funnel that forms while the thunderstorm cloud is still growing and there is no rotating updraft.” Earlier in the day, a Flash Flood Warning was posted for the Rafael Fire area, for possible flooding in Sycamore Canyon and a large dust storm, also known as a “haboob” was spotted near Winslow. The National Weather Service says there’s a 80-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday in Flagstaff.
