Timothy Duran Found Guilty Of First Degree Murder And More In The 2019 Death Of His Wife

The lawyers for convicted murderer Timothy Duran are asking for a new trial. Duran was convicted of first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse and two counts of threatening or intimidating in October in connection with the death of his wife, 35-year-old Crystal Morgan. His attorney’s filed the motion on November 4th, claiming the first degree murder verdict is “contrary to law and the weight of the evidence and therefore the defendant was denied a fair trial.” Duran’s attorneys say during the trial, witnesses testified saying Duran has a character trait of impulsivity, where someone acts out before thinking. They claim the jury was “able to determine whether the evidence supported a finding that the defendant acted with premeditation” regarding first degree murder. The state responded to the motion, asking for the judge to deny it after they say the “facts were and properly applied” to the law. Superior Court Judge Dan Slayton has yet to render a decision on the motion. In March of 2019, Duran and Morgan were in their home on Gemini Drive, when Duran began stabbing her several times with a screwdriver and a carving fork in front of their two children. Duran faces life in prison. He will be sentenced in Coconino County Superior Court January 6th.
