The Coconino and Kaibab national forests are remaining in Stage One fire restrictions for the next several weeks. Officials say the reason is because the forests remain extremely dry. The restrictions will remain in place through the end of November or until significant moisture falls. Forest officials remind visitors that having a campfire on the national forest while under fire restrictions is a violation of law, which may require a mandatory appearance in federal court and consequent fines and possible jail time. Visitors should use extra caution when recreating on all public lands during times of the year when fire danger is increased.
