A Springerville man has been convicted by a Yavapai County Jury in connection with a drive-by shooting in Prescott back in 2021. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident at Lynx Lake at around 2 p.m. on March 19th, 2021 on Walker Road near the South Shore entrance to the lake. The victim had turned onto Walker Road from Highway 69 and after travelling for about a mile, passed the suspect’s slower moving vehicle. Then 70-year-old Erik Engdahl, then attempted to rear end the victim who was now trying to create distance from the upset driver. As they approached the entrance to Lynx Lake South Shore, the victim heard a popping sound and realized something hit his car. He looked back and saw the Engdahl pointing a black handgun outside the driver’s side window of the Toyota 4-Runner. The victim sped away and Engdahl stopped following him. The victim was uninjured. Later on that week, investigators found the vehicle in Las Vegas with the appearance changed. They issued two warrants, one in Las Vegas and the other in Prescott. They seized the truck and firearms, ammunition and other evidence connected to the shooting. A jury found Engdahl guilty of drive-by shooting, aggravated assault, criminal damage and tampering with physical evidence. He faces up to 20-years in prison. Engdahl’s sentencing hearing is set for June 26th.
