Single Car Accident Leads To Heroin Sales Case

A single vehicle accident led to a heroin drug case in Cottonwood last week. Police responded to the 300-block of North Main Street for a report of the accident last Thursday. The vehicle left the road and collided with landscaping, leading up to the south side of the CTS building. The female driver was seen by witnesses walking from the vehicle towards Old Town. Officers were able to locate 44-year-old Jayla Shepard of Cottonwood, who was the driver. She had been driving on a suspended license and had a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest out of Clarkdale. During a search of her purse, officer found an ounce-and-a-quarter of heroin, along with a usable amount of marijuana and syringes. Shepard told officers she was on her way to sell the heroin prior to the accident. She was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and a misdemeanor warrant. She has been released pending trial.
