State Route 89A was closed for several hours after an RV caught fire in Oak Creek Canyon Saturday. Sedona and Highland fire crews were called to the scene at milemarker 389, in the Switchbacks in the north end of the canyon. Highland fire officials say when they arrived they found the RV fully engulfed in flames. They were quick to tend to the fire and knock down the flames. Firefighters were able to keep the fire to the vehicle so it wouldn’t spread into the wilderness, however a couple of trees did sustain some damage. There were no injuries and 89A was reopened later in the day. Sedona Fire officials say a fire at the north end of the canyon is always a concern, but the quick work by fire crews, and a wetter than normal winter, were big reasons why the fire didn’t spread.
