A Red Flag Warning will be in effect for most of Northern Arizona today for a third straight day. Cities and towns under the Red Flag Warning are: The Greater Flagstaff Area, Williams, Prescott, Prescott Valley Holbrook, Winslow, the Grand Canyon, the White Mountains and Navajo and Hopi nations. A Red Flag Warning is issued when strong winds and low humidites are forecast. Winds are expected to be 15-to-25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 45 miles per hour at times. Humidities are expected to be as low as seven percent. It means if a fire starts, it won’t take long until it’s a full-blown wildfire. If you’re traveling, make sure you have chains up off the highway if you are pulling a trailer, and do not throw cigarettes out of your vehicle’s window. There are no prescribed burns schedule so if you see smoke in the forest, call the forest service dispatch center at (928) 527-3552.
