The state Forestry Department began a prescribed burn near Mormon Lake Tuesday, but has postponed the rest of the burn for now. Forestry officials say the “Flying M Ranch Prescribed Burn” is a 18-hundred acre burn on state trust land was supposed to run through Thursday east of Mormon Lake about 30 miles southeast of Flagstaff and ten miles south of Interstate 40. However, state officials say the amount of moisture on the ground and the forecast for high relative humidities within the project area aren’t conductive to continue the project right now. Crews were able to complete 250 acres of the burn, which has now been postponed until late winter or early spring.
