Prescott Police are investigating a fatal shooting that left one person dead and two others injured. Police received a 911 call back on November 29th at around 6:53 a.m. from a male subject saying he shot two people at a residence in the 900 Block of Peace Lane. When officers arrived, they located 47-year-old Taj Stephens from Yuma, outside the residence with superficial wounds to his head. Inside the residence officers located 29-year-old Cheyenne Miller from Prescott, with a single gunshot wound to the chest area, and 24-year-old River Maize, from Prescott, with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. All three people were initially treated on scene by EMS personnel and transported to Yavapai Regional Medical Center west campus. Stephens’ injuries were non-life threatening, and he was treated and later released. Miller’s injuries were life threatening, and she was flown by Native Air to a Phoenix area hospital. Miller received medical treatment and was later released from the hospital. Maize’s injuries were critical upon arrival at YRMC, but he was pronounced dead a short time later. As a result of the investigation, Stephens was arrested and charged with burglary and misconduct involving weapons. Miller was also arrested and charged with burglary, sale or transportation of narcotic drugs, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, and misconduct involving weapons. Both subjects are currently in the custody of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. The case remains under investigation.
