A Phoenix couple were arrested in Cottonwood recently in connection with a vehicle theft, burglaries and other felonies. Authorities say an officer was on routine patrol last Friday, when he recognized a black Dodge pickup backed into a parking space at a Cottonwood motel. He noticed the truck matched a vehicle captured on surveillance footage where suspects used a stolen credit card to make purchases. The officer made contact with 29-year-old Mary Amanda Garner, who was sitting in the passenger side of the truck. Soon after, her boyfriend, 28-year-old James McCord came out of a room. The officer obtained a search warrant and began to search the truck. Officers found a large amount of mail from the Phoenix area, Sedona and the Verde Valley. Also several stolen credit cards were found in McCord’s wallet. Evidence also linked them to several burglaries in Cottonwood. During the search, officers also found heroin, meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the truck. McCord and Garner were booked on numerous felony charges related to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
