One of the three generators at the Cholla Power Plant in Joseph City is set to shut down by the end of 2020. PacifiCorp made the announcement Monday. The remaining two generators at the plant are set to shut down in 2025. The plant is a coal-fired plant just west of Holbrook along Interstate-40 and is operated by APS. PacificCorp operates one of the three units and says it was no longer economic for its customers past this year. This decision comes on the heels of the Navajo Generating Station closing down last month near Page. It’s the latest move to move away from coal-fired plants toward natural gas and other sources of power.
