NAU Police have received three grants totaling nearly $50-thousand dollars to help increase roadway safety throughout Northern Arizona. The money was awaredt to NAUPD from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The first grant will allow NAUPD to dedicate officers to DUI enforcement during DUI task forces on all major holidays and significant NAU event weekends such as homecoming. The second grant will allow officers to engage in bicycle and ATV patrols to educate cyclists, skateboarders and pedestrians on applicable laws as well as take enforcement action if needed. The third grant will be used to purchase a motorcycle to help enhance traffic enforcement as well as faster response to emergency calls. NAU Police Chief Kelli Smith says the money will help “promote roadway safety on campus and throughout Flagstaff.”
