The NAU women’s basketball team got a big win at home, while the men fell on the road in a tight game against Portland State Thursday. The women got the night off to a good start, leading start to finish en route to a 94-66 in the Skydome over the Vikings. Lauren Orndoff scored 20 points to lead the Lumberjacks, while Khiarica Rasheed added 12 points in the win. The Jacks had 14 steals in the game, which is double their season average of seven. NAU will now hit the road for three games, starting in Cedar City, Utah Monday night against Southern Utah. The NAU men’s team had a subpar first half, but trailed by just nine at halftime 34-25. NAU had 16 turnovers that led to 22 points in the first half. The Jacks rallied to tie the game late, but couldn’t get over the hump, falling to Portland State 68-67. Jalen Cone led the Jacks with 19 points and Keith Haymon added 13. NAU finished with 24 turnovers in the game, but held the Vikings to just three-of-22 from three-point range in the game. The Jacks have lost two straight and will return home to the Skydome for the final three home games of the season, starting Monday night against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. Tip time is at 6 p.m.
