NAU swept Montana in basketball Thursday night. The NAU men’s team needed overtime, but beat the Grizzlies, 72-67, in Missoula. The Jacks have beaten Montana on the road for the second straight season, which is the first time that’s happened since the 2007-08 season. Nik Mains scored 21 points and hit five, three-pointers to lead the Lumberjacks. Carson Towt had 16 points and Jalen Cone added 13 in the win. NAU has won two of their last three games and will head to Bozeman for a game Saturday afternoon against Montana State. Tip time is at noon with the pregame show starting at 11:30 a.m. on KAFF Country 93.5/AM 930 in Flagstaff and Fun Oldies 97.9 in Prescott. The NAU women had an exciting finish in the Skydome in their game. The Jacks trailed 59-57 with less than a second left. The public address announcer at the men’s game in Missoula thought it was over and announced a Grizzlies win to the crowd. Someone forgot to tell the Lumberjacks as Khiarica Rasheed hit a shot at the buzzer to tie the game and was fouled. She hit the free throw and the Lumberjacks beat the Grizzlies 60-59. Miki Maio led the Jacks with 12 points and Rasheed had ten points and nine rebounds. The Jacks have won two straight and will host Montana State Saturday at noon.
