NAU Men Fall, Women Beat Weber State To End 2022

The NAU basketball teams finished out 2022 against the Weber State Wildcats New Year’s Eve Day. The NAU men got out to a fast start, confusing Weber State, getting out to a 27-19 lead. However, Weber State went on an 11-0 run to end the first half and had a 14-0 run in the second half as they went on to a 76-60 win over NAU. Jalen Cone led the Lumberjacks with 16 points and Nik Mains added ten in the loss. NAU starts the Big Sky season 0-2 and returns to Flagstaff to open up the home slate against the Montana schools, starting with the Montana Grizzlies Thursday night at 6 p.m. The women trailed by one after the first quarter, but used strong second and third quarters to knock off Weber State, 82-68 in the Skydome. Montana Oltrogge led the Jacks with a double-double 19 points and 11 rebounds and Regan Schenck added 15 points, 11-of-12 from the free throw line, in the win. NAU was a lot better from three-point land against Weber, connecting on 10-of-25 from beyond the arc. The women will now head to Montana for a two game swing, staring in Missoula against the Grizzlies Thursday night.
