NAU Gets First Win Of The Season As The Lumberjacks Upset 13th-Ranked Montana In The Skydome Saturday

The NAU Lumberjacks stunned the Big Sky Conference Saturday as they led start to finish to upset the 13th-ranked Montana Grizzlies, 28-14, in the Skydome. The win snaps a two game losing streak against Montana, in Flagstaff. The biggest reason for the win was a tremendous effort by the Lumberjack defense. The defense sacked Grizz quarterbacks five times and forced two turnovers, one was on the opening drive of the second half when freshman Alex McLaughlin made a nice pick of Montana quarterback Sam Vidlak. Adam Damante made his first-career start. He was 23-of-30 for 212 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. Sophomore Chase Belcher had a solid game. He had 54 yards on 12 carries, as well as a 48-yard touchdown pass in the first half. The win is the first this season for NAU, while the loss for Montana is their first of the year. The Lumberjacks head to Sacramento, California next week to take on the fourth-ranked Sacramento State Hornets. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
