NAU Cross Country/Track & Field Head Coach Mike Smith Signs Five-Year-Extension

Northern Arizona University cross country and track and field head coach Mike Smith agreed to a five-year contract extension Friday. Smith took over the program in 2017 and has elevated both to historic levels. Under Smith, NAU’s men’s cross country team has won four NCAA National Championships in five years, and the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams have won a total 24 Big Sky Championships. During his time at NAU, Smith has earned 23 Big Sky Coach of the Year Awards and four National Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year Awards, among others. The men’s cross country team will open up defense of their national title with the only home event of the season, this Saturday at Buffalo Park. The NAU women will also compete in the women’s race in Flagstaff.
