Monsoon Storms Pummeled Flagstaff And Surrounding Area Wednesday

Flagstaff saw another stormy day with various Flash Flood Warnings sent out to residents across the area. Just after 11 a.m. residents of Fernwood, Wupatki Trails, and Timberline area were warned of possible flooding. The area of Kevin’s Way saw the brunt of flood waters, as runoff flowed into the culvert along Highway 89 and also into adjacent flood control ponds. At no time did Highway 89 close in either direction, which is credit to county and ADOT workers efforts over the past few days. Heavy rain also fell in the area of University Heights, Railroad Springs, Northern Arizona University, and Buffalo Park. Rain in the University Heights area measured nearly two inches in a short period of time. The west side of Flagstaff off of Highway 180 saw a little action as well as shelter-in-place orders were put into effect for Coconino Estates, Creighton Estates, Cheshire, Coyote Springs, and Anasazi Ridge at around 1 p.m. Water came down off of the Pipeline West burn area via Schultz Creek. However, water stayed in the channels and didn’t spill onto Highway 180 and into neighborhoods, giving nearby residents a sigh of relief. Forecasters are calling for another good chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday.
