The Monsoon sent flood waters down through Wupatki Trails and across Highway 89 once again Saturday afternoon. A storm developed over the Schultz-Pipeline burn area and grew, but didn’t move. The bulk of rain fell over the mountains near the Wupatki Trails neighborhood. Coconino County rain gauges show between three-quarters of an inch to nearly an inch and a half fell in about an hour in the area. Flood waters crossed Highway 89 near Sunset Crater, and Kevins Way, closing traffic in both directions. The National Weather Service is calling for the possibility of showers and thunderstorms daily, with chances of heavy rain at times, daily at least through the end of next week.
