A missing elderly couple has been found alive and well. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Yavapai County Search and Rescue, found missing couple Mike and Catherine Pena, and their dog Daphnie, safe Thursday. On Tuesday, the couple took their truck out for a drive to Palace Station. On their way home they got stuck in treacherous road conditions on Senator Highway. The couple ended up spending two nights trapped on the ice and snowy road. Fortunately they stayed in their truck, conserved their fuel and had food and water. During the search, rescue teams, including 20 volunteers, worked 87 man hours and covered about 13-hundred mile of main roads between Prescott and Crown King. When found, a DPS helicopter lifted the couple to safety. Daphnie the Dachshund was driven out by YCSO volunteers. No one was injured in the incident. This search and rescue reaffirms how important it is to have an emergency kit with you. Make sure you have adequate food, water, maps, a GPS, and battery life for all cell phones.
