Mayer Man Arrested After Pouring Gasoline On His Girlfriend And Trying To Light Her, And The Home, On Fire

A Mayer man has been arrested after he poured gasoline on his girlfriend and tried to light her, and the home, on fire. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say deputies responded to a report of a fight off Copper Road last Sunday. The victim claimed her boyfriend, 43-year-old Jonathan Dittus was upset with her, held her down by the throat with his hands and a knife and threatened to cut her. She said he poured gasoline on her and all over the inside of a travel trailer they were staying in. She claims he then lit some clothing outside the trailer with a propane torch and threw it in the trailer while she was still inside. She was able to put out the fire prior to YCSO arriving. When deputies arrived, they found the victim and the floor of the trailer were both soaked in gasoline, and that Jonathan had already left the scene. The victim was treated on scene by fire for minor injuries. YCSO was eventually able to contact Dittus who agreed to meet with a deputy at a certain time and location. However, in a twist, prior to the agreed upon meeting time, another YCSO deputy went to check on the property and saw a truck hooked up to the same travel trailer Dittus had tried to light on fire and located the suspect inside the home arresting him on site. He has been charged with multiple charges including attempted second-degree murder.
