Monday is the day a mask mandate protest was to take place at Flagstaff Unified School District schools. FUSD was made aware of the protests, saying violation of the mask requirement will result in the student not being allowed in classrooms and, if necessary, directed to an outdoor area to assemble. Parents were also given the option of picking their child up from school. As of one p.m., there were no visible signs of groups outside of Flagstaff High School and at two elementary schools. There were about 100 students gathered at the football stadium at Coconino High School. One Coconino student told KAFF News that some students were taking the protest seriously, while others were seeing it as a way to not go to class. FUSD’s Governing Board will discuss the possibility of changing the district’s mask mandate at their next meeting on February 22nd.
