Many Areas Now In Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

Most of Northern Arizona is now in Stage 2 fire restrictions. The City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, Coconino National Forest, Kaibab National Forest and the Grand Canyon are the areas now in Stage 2. The Prescott National Forest and surrounding areas remain in Stage 1. The call for Stage 2 is in response to the threat of unwanted wildfires increasing due to hot, dry and windy weather conditions. Fire danger is still very high. Stage 2 bans the use of igniting, building, maintain or using a campfire. It also bans the use of explosive targets, tracer rounds or incendiary ammunition. Also motorized vehicles are prohibited on specific forest roads near the San Francisco Peaks, Pumphouse Wash area and Marshall Lake. Fire restrictions are implemented to help prevent human-caused fires and to limit the exposure of visitors during periods of potentially dangerous fire conditions.
