The Mangum Fire is burning on the Kaibab National Forest about nine miles southwest of Jacob Lake. Fire officials say the fire started Monday and has grown to over 500 acres. Smoke is visible from both the North and South Rims of the Grand Canyon, Fredonia, Page and Kanab, Utah. Officials believe the fire started near Mangum Camp, about two miles north of Big Springs. Fire crews are fighting the fire from the air today with five air tankers and three helicopters, along with resources on the ground. A Type 2 Incident Management Team will be arriving to take over command of the fire this week. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
