A man was found dead in a Cottonwood motel room early Monday morning. Cottonwood Police officers responded to the Super 8 Motel on South Main Street on reports of a male subject refusing to leave the room after his rental payment and stay expired earlier in the morning. Authorities say staff of the motel attempted to get the man out of the room, but the attempts went unanswered. Officers finally got in contact with the man, who showed a handgun to the officers, and closed the door. The Verde Valley Regional SWAT and Negotiations Team were brought to the scene to attempt to resolve the situation. Entry to the motel room was made, where authorities found the man unresponsive and deceased in the room. The man was found with a handgun and no one else was found inside the room. The case has since been turned over to the Cottonwood Police Investigations Unit and the Yavapai County Medical Examiner to confirm the man’s cause of death.
