The man arrested in connection with the death of a Navajo woman, whose body was found on the Hopi Reservation in 2021, has been found guilty of murder. Thirty-year-old Tre Young of Pinon was arrested in early August on first degree murder and several acts of domestic violence. A week before he was arrested he was indicted on eight counts. Young was found guilty of killing Jamie Lynette Yazzie, who was last seen near Pinon on June 30th, 2019 and hadn’t been seen since, until her body was found last year. He was also convicted of assaulting three other women after Yazzie’s death. Yazzie was listed as a missing person by both federal and tribal law enforcement, and the circumstances of her disappearance were investigated jointly by several organizations, including Navajo Police, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI. Young’s sentencing hearing will take place in January of 2024.
