The National Park Service is now accepting applications for noncommercial river trip permits for the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. A total of 359 permits will be available for river trips between 12 and 25 days for 2023. This permit lottery service is held every February to give launch dates for river trips occurring the following year. Follow-up lotteries will be held throughout the year to handle canceled and left-over trips to appropriately reassign them. To apply for a river trip permit, you must be 18 years or older. Noncommercial river trips are self-guided and a technical whitewater experience is mandatory for each trip. Applications will be accepted online until February 22nd at noon. To apply for a noncommercial river trip permit, go to GRCARiverPermits.NPS.gov.
