FUSD To Discuss The Current Situation With COVID-19 And Their Masking Recommendations Tuesday

The Flagstaff Unified District Governing Board will discuss the current situation with COVID-19 in the city this week. They will meet in executive session at 5 p.m. Tuesday, to get legal advice from their attorneys about the current masking guidelines from the state. Currently due to the state law that was passed in the legislature this session, FUSD is recommending students, faculty and staff wear masks while in school, but that could change. COVID-19 is on the regular agenda to be discussed. However, Superintendent Michael Penca told KAFF News Monday morning, they are keeping an eye on a specific matter. He says “there’s a lot of debate about the way that law was passed, it was part of a budget bill, it will be heard in court this Friday that may provide a little more clarity.” He adds, “our board is really staying in tune with both the health recommendations, but also the legal issues around this.” He says, regardless of the current mask debate, he expects schools to stay in in-person learning for the year. You can watch Tuesday’s meeting on the FUSD Facebook page, or we on the KAFF News Facebook page.
