The Flagstaff Unified School District called for three snow days this week, after wave after wave of winter storms dumped feet of snow in Flagstaff and surrounding areas. Questions have arose on if the district had snow days left to burn for the winter. FUSD officials tell KAFF News that FUSD will “utilize its make-up days on April 24th and May 5th on the 2022-23 calendar to account for school days canceled due to winter weather.” The district says they have a plan for the days used this week. FUSD spokesman Joshua Butler says “the district’s instructional model allows the Superintendent to evaluate the instructional hours in excess of state requirements to determine if students need to make up missed instructional days.” He says “FUSD students will not need to make up school days for the three days used this week.” He adds, “staff are to work their contractual days/time or utilize available leave.” Butler says staff will be provided more details from Human Resources soon.
