Former Killip Elementary School Teacher Ted Komada Pleads Guilty To Sex Crimes

Former Killip Elementary School teacher and chess coach Ted Komada has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual conduct with a minor and another count of attempted child molestation. Komada made the plea in Coconino County Superior Court Tuesday. The plea agreement accepted the mandatory 25 years in prison for the charge of sexual conduct with a minor and will have lifetime probation for the second count. The 38-year-old was caught in the act molesting one of the victims by an adult last year. According to the police report, he admitted to police that he had engaged in some sexual acts with the children, but denied other claims. The report also says the victims told officials Komada would frequently ask the children to perform sex acts on him. Komada was named STEM Teacher of the Year in 2016 and under his leadership, guided Killip’s chess program to multiple regional and state championships.
