A Flood Watch is in effect Thursday morning for the lower elevations of Yavapai County. The watch includes: Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Cordes Junction, Sedona and Payson. A Flood Warning is in effect until 11 a.m. Thursday for Wet Beaver Creek, including Rimrock and Lake Montezuma areas, as well as Oak Creek, including Sedona and Cornville. Forecasters say periods of heavy rainfall could quickly melt snow left over from past storms and create flooding in some areas. Flooding is possible in creeks, normally dry washes and swimming holes. Low-water crossings could also experience flooding, which could create deadly travel conditions. Do not cross flooded washes or creeks, because if you get stuck, could violate the state’s “Stupid Motorist Law.” Breaking the law could make the driver financially responsible for any rescue or tow needed after entering a flooded area. Forecasters say the greatest chances for flooding exist within the Oak Creek, Sycamore Creek, Beaver Creek and Verde River basins.
