Flagstaff Uses Strong Running Game And Opportunistic Defense In Shut Out Win Friday

The Flagstaff Eagles used a strong running game and a stingy defense to shut out Desert Sunrise, on their homecoming, 27-0 Friday night in Maricopa. The Eagles scored 14 points in the first quarter and led at halftime 14-0. In the first play of the third quarter, the ball was snapped over the head of Golden Hawks quarterback Mike Wallace and into the endzone where the Eagles pounced on the ball for the touchdown. In all the Eagles had an interception and recovered three fumbles, one for the touchdown. They also held the Golden Hawks to just ten yards rushing. Flagstaff running back Jayden Wetzel had 18 carries for 147 yards and three touchdowns in the win that improves the Eagles to 1-3 on the season. Flagstaff returns to Phoenix next Friday to take on the Copper Canyon Aztecs.
