The Flagstaff Eagles girls and the Coconino boys won their rivalry basketball games Saturday night at Flagstaff High School. In the girls game, the Coconino Panthers battled Eagles close as the score was 10-5 after one. However, the fourth-ranked Eagles outscored Coconino 50-20 the rest of the way to win 60-25. Freshman Bella Burcar, daughter of NAU men’s head coach Shane Burcar, led the Eagles with 19 points, 15 of which came in the second quarter in the win. Morning Honani and Sage Begay each added 12. Lorelei Tessmer led the Panthers with nine points while Jazmyn Ben added eight in the loss. In the boys game, Coconino got out to a 14-4 lead and didn’t look back as they beat Flagstaff 70-51. Ivory Washington led the Panthers with 23 points. Memphis James added 19 points for Coconino. The Eagles were led by Jake Centner with 25 points. The two schools play again at toward the end of the season. The guys play on February 1st and the girls will play on the second, both games are at Coconino High School.
