Flagstaff Fire crews battled a fire at a recycling plant in Flagstaff Friday afternoon. Crews were called to the plant on the 18-hundred block of Butler Avenue at around 1:30 p.m. on a report of smoke and flames coming from the large commercial building. Crews found the fire burning in a large pile of recycling debris within the warehouse, and made sure everyone inside had safely evacuated. About 20 firefighters worked the blaze for two hours to gain control. Due to the size of the debris pile burning, heavy equipment from the recycling center was utilized to pull the pile apart and ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Firefighters were able to keep the fire in one area and not spread to other large stacks and combustible fuels in the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
