Flagstaff, Coconino Both Win To Set Up Friday’s Game For The 4A Grand Canyon Region Title

The Flagstaff Eagles and Coconino Panthers each won Friday night, which sets up the 52nd Flagstaff City Championship game for the 4A Grand Canyon Region title. The Panthers trailed Mingus at halftime, 21-14, but Coconino outscored the Marauders 14-0 in the second half for the 35-21 win. Tyson Fousel had 146 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way for the Panthers. Senior Zach Bennett had 102 yards rushing to become Coconino’s all-time leading rusher, passing Bruce Branch. The win was Coconino’s 14th straight region win. The Flagstaff Eagles got down 10-0 to the Lee Williams, but led the Vols 21-17 at halftime. The Eagles outscored the Volunteers 14-0 in the second half for the 35-17 win. Senior running back Luis Jaramillo had 326 yards and four touchdowns and Spencer Smith had a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown in the win. Of the four touchdowns, Jaramillo blasted through the line and was gone, 91-yards for the score. Coconino hosts Flagstaff for the region title Friday. We will have the game on KAFF Country 93.5/AM 930 starting at 6:30 p.m.
