Flagstaff Advances To The Second Round Of The Open Bracket With A 64-46 Win Over Deer Valley Tuesday

The Flagstaff Eagles girls basketball team advanced to the second round of the Open State Basketball Tournament after beating the 22nd-seeded Deer Valley Skyhawks Tuesday, 64-46, at Flagstaff High School. Ten different Eagles scored at least two points in the game and they were led by Carter Edison with 12 points, ten of which came in the third quarter. Makenzie Mason added 11 and Morning Honani scored nine points in the win. Deer Valley senior Diamond Stevenson led all-scorers with 24 points in the loss. The 11th-seeded Eagles will head to the valley to take on the sixth-seeded Pinnacle Pioneers Thursday night. Pinnacle knocked Flagstaff out of the open bracket tournament last season. Deer Valley will get ready for the 4A Conference Tournament next week. If Flagstaff wins Thursday, they will stay in the open bracket the rest of the way. If the Eagles lose, they will go into the 4A state tournament, likely the number-two seed. Thursday’s tip time is at 7 p.m.
