An elderly Cottonwood man took his own life in the lobby of the Cottonwood Public Safety building Tuesday afternoon. Police say a family member of 74-year-old Lloyd Wingfield called police because they were worried he was suicidal. Officers arrived at his home, but contact wasn’t made. At around 1:45 p.m., Wingfield entered the building at 199 South Sixth Street, pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head in the main lobby area. He was taken to the Verde Valley Medical Center and was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation.
