An attempted traffic stop turned into a high speed pursuit that started near Williams and ended in West Flagstaff Monday afternoon. DPS State Troopers attempt to pull over a black Dodge Charger on eastbound Interstate-40 at around 4:36 p.m. at milepost 170 just east of Williams. The vehicle stopped, but as the trooper approached the vehicle it fled at a high rate of speed. Troopers pursued the vehicle for about 17 miles with the pursuit reaching speeds of 150 miles-per-hour before troopers lost sight of the vehicle at around milepost 192 just outside Flagstaff. About 13 minutes later, DPS located the vehicle abandoned and parked about a half-block west of the DPS office on West Kaibab Lane. Soon after, Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies found the suspect walking three blocks west of the vehicle and took him into custody. The driver was arrested and booked on felony and misdemeanor charges.
