Former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin has been found guilty in connection in the death of George Floyd. The jury took around ten hours to deliberate the second and third degree murder charges and the manslaughter charge. Chauvin was filmed in May of 2020 with his knee on Floyd’s neck. Floyd was heard on the video telling Chauvin he couldn’t breathe and moments later Floyd passed away. Chauvin is facing up to 40 years in prison and will be sentenced in about eight weeks. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey says across the country and across Arizona, “we must remain committed to ensuring something like this never happens again.” He adds, “I ask all Arizonans to react to the news peacefully and respectfully.”
