Cottonwood Police Seize Over 100-Thousand Fentanyl Pills On I-17 Wednesday During A Drug Interdiction Detail

Cottonwood Police seized over 100-thousand fentanyl pills during a traffic stop Wednesday on Interstate-17. A Cottonwood K9 unit was a part of a drug interdiction detail when they conducted multiple traffic stops. During one of the stops, a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Pedro Martinez-Perez from Mexico, was searched after officers saw indicators of possible drug trafficking were identified and K9 Duke was deployed. Duke alerted his handler to the vehicle. A search uncovered a large duffle bag containing 100 bags of around one-thousand pill each. Cottonwood Police chief Steve Gesell says “There is no doubt lives were saved when you take 100-thousand pills off the street. It’s estimated around 40 percent contain a potentially lethal dose for most humans.” Martinez-Perez has been booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center on charges of possession of narcotic drugs, possession of narcotic drugs for sale and transportation of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
